In today’s PorscheCooled Podcast Michael presents episode 68 of owner stories with Derek from New Hampshire in the U.S. Derek doesn’t recall seeing many Porsches growing up. His first exposure to the brand was at around 10 years old when he was given a die-cast Porsche model. A model he remembers well due to its cool shape, and it being not like anything else he had seen. It was until after college that Derek bought his first Porsche. He started with transaxles and then worked his way up to the rear engine Porsches.
Derek has a strong passion for both cars and motorcycles, owning over 40 to date. This includes around 11 or so Porsches. The first Porsche Derek bought was a 924 Turbo with his brother. A project car that unfortunately never got on the road. Nonetheless, this cemented Derek’s passion for Porsche.
So, what was Derek’s first Porsche he could enjoy on the road? Well, that was a black-on-black Porsche 944S - a very cool looking car. This was the start of Derek’s ‘Porsche bug’, and he has owned and experienced some great Porsches since then. These include a 356C, 930 Turbo, 911SC, Boxster S, 914, 993 C4 and a 997, all the way to his current Porsches. Derek’s wife drives a 2013 Porsche Cayenne S and Derek found his perfect air-cooled 911. A 1972 911T in Albert blue with a 2.7 engine. A car that took him 3 years to find. The right 911 for Derek and in a colour, he wanted and was willing to wait for.
